Dhaka: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain has announced a plan to establish a health hub for every three unions as part of the decentralization of healthcare services across the country. This initiative aims to implement a five-tier healthcare service structure, which will also include a Health Wellbeing Centre for every three wards of the union.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the minister made this announcement during a surprise visit to the Naogaon Sadar Hospital. He shared that a 50-bed dialysis centre will be installed in every medical college hospital and 10-bed dialysis centres in every district hospital. This development will allow dialysis services to be available at the district level, reducing the necessity for patients to travel to Dhaka for treatment.
The minister further revealed that the government has initially planned to upgrade the bed capacity of Upazila Health Complexes from 50 to 101 beds. However, following instructions from the Prime Minister, efforts are underway to increase the capacity to 151 beds instead.
Addressing the environment and services of public hospitals, Sakhawat stated that he received positive feedback from patients, who reported receiving good care and medication. He noted that the doctors and nurses are committed to their roles, and the quality of food provided to patients is satisfactory. Efforts are also being made to further enhance the quality of food served to patients.
