Dhaka: A total of 449 cases were filed in 24 hours for traffic law violations on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway using artificial intelligence (AI)-powered cameras. Mohammad Shahinur Alam, Superintendent of Cumilla Highway Police, stated that Tk 15.51 lakh in fines was imposed during this period.

According to United News of Bangladesh, AI-powered cameras are being utilized to detect traffic violations such as speeding, driving on the wrong side of the road, and illegal parking. These cameras automatically initiate cases and impose fines based on the detected violations, as explained by SP Shahinur.

SP Shahinur emphasized that expanding the use of AI cameras on the highway could reduce traffic law violations and enhance road safety and discipline. “The impact has already started to become visible,” he remarked. The AI camera system became operational on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway at 11 am on Tuesday.

In total, 1,427 cameras have been installed along a 250-kilometre stretch of the highway as part of this initiative.
