Dhaka: A delegation led by Founder and Executive Director of the Blind Education and Rehabilitation Development Organisation (BERDO), Md Saidul Haque, paid a courtesy call on the Acting Speaker of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad, Barrister Kayser Kamal, MP, today. During this meeting, discussions were held on the pressing need to ensure equal dignity and respect for all individuals, including those with disabilities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Acting Speaker emphasized the duty of society to treat all people with equal dignity, noting that persons with disabilities should not be seen as obstacles. Ensuring dignity for all individuals is considered one of the sacred responsibilities of lawmakers, he remarked. The meeting also included an exchange of views on ensuring proper protection for persons with disabilities at a global level, guaranteeing their right to education, and upholding their right to equality as human beings.
The delegation further advocated for the representation of persons with disabilities within political parties and called for the establishment of a parliamentary caucus. This caucus would aim to ensure appropriate legal protection and decent employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities, thereby fostering an inclusive society.
