Dhaka: A court here today convicted and sentenced one Asif Shikder to death in a case filed over the stabbing death of his friend, Manarat International University student Nasim Ahmed in 2017. Judge Tawhida Akter of Dhaka Seventh Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Court pronounced the judgment in absence of Asif as he is still at large and was tried in absentia.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case documents reveal that on November 6, 2017, Asif stabbed Nasim in front of his home following an altercation between the two the previous night. Nasim ran for his life but collapsed in front of his house. His family members rushed him to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH), where doctors on duty declared him dead.

Nasim’s father filed the case with the Badda Police Station against Asif and two others. Police on September 30, 2018, filed a charge-sheet against Asif. The court on January 19, 2022, framed charges against him in his absence.

The court today delivered the judgment after examining 14 of the 20 witnesses.
