Dhaka: A young girl and her grandmother were tragically killed when they were struck by a moving train while attempting to cross a railway line near Shashongachha in Cumilla on Tuesday evening. According to United News of Bangladesh, the fatal accident took place around 7 p.m. near the Cumilla Railway Station. The victims have been identified as Jotsna Begum, 60, the widow of Mizanur Rahman, and her 14-year-old granddaughter, Chandni Akter. Both were residents of the Uttarpara area in Muradnagar upazila. Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, an assistant sub-inspector with the Cumilla Railway Police Outpost, stated that the pair was crossing the railway line near the entrance to Cumilla Railway Station when they were hit by the Dhaka-bound Subarna Express, resulting in their immediate deaths. Johora Akter, the niece of Jotsna Begum, explained that Jotsna had brought Chandni to Cumilla for a medical consultation. Following the doctor's visit, they were on their way back to the bus station when the accident occurred as t hey attempted to cross the railway line. Sohrab Hossain, who is in charge of the Cumilla Railway Police Outpost, reported that the bodies have been recovered and that legal proceedings are currently underway.
