Dhaka: Health officials today announced a significant rise in dengue cases, reporting 753 new infections and three fatalities within the past 24 hours.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) provided a detailed breakdown of the infections across various regions. Of the newly reported cases, 98 patients were hospitalised in the Barishal division, 94 in the Chattogram division, and 51 in the Dhaka division. Additionally, 106 cases were recorded in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), while Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) reported 135 cases. Other affected areas include the Khulna division with 135 cases, Mymensingh division with 61 cases, Rajshahi division with 46 cases, Rangpur division with 24 cases, and Sylhet division with three cases.
Since the beginning of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has witnessed 74 deaths, with the total number of infections reaching 25,601. In comparison, last year, the dengue virus claimed 413 lives and affected 102,861 individuals in the country. The projections for 2024 indicate a further escalation, with 575 fatalities and 101,214 infections anticipated.
