Cumilla: District Detective Branch (DB) police have seized around 300,000 yaba tablets from a luxury Prado vehicle in Cumilla and arrested two people in connection with the consignment. The seized yaba is estimated to be worth around Tk 15 crore, police said.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the operation was conducted around noon on Monday in the Jagurjuli area of Sadar upazila on the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway. The arrested men were identified as Faisal Hossain, 25, and Aman Ullah, 35, the driver of the Prado. Both are residents of Chakaria upazila in Cox’s Bazar.
Officer-in-Charge of Cumilla District DB Police Shamsul Alam Shah mentioned that a DB team took position in the Jagurjuli area acting on a tip-off about a large consignment of yaba being transported. At one time, the team intercepted a white Prado travelling from Chattogram towards Dhaka and searched the vehicle.
During the search, police found a large consignment of yaba wrapped in Scotch tape inside a suitcase. After counting, they found around 300,000 tablets, police said. Cumilla Superintendent of Police Md Anisuzzaman visited the spot after being informed about the seizure.
He said the two suspects were being interrogated and that details about the source of the yaba and its intended destination would become clear after questioning. Legal action against those involved is underway, police said.
