Three Sentenced to Death for Murder of Covered Van Driver in Chattogram

Chattogram: A Chattogram court has sentenced three individuals to death for the murder of a covered van driver in 2021. Judge Tajul Islam of the Chattogram Additional Metropolitan Sessions’ Judge Court-5 delivered the verdict on Monday, condemning Nurul Amin from Habiganj district, Md Shahjahan from Cumilla, and Nurul Alam Turul from Feni district. Along with the death sentence, the court imposed a fine of Tk 50,000 on each of the convicts.



According to United News of Bangladesh, Nurul Amin and Md Shahjahan were tried in absentia, prompting the court to issue arrest warrants for them. The prosecution revealed that on October 27, 2021, police recovered the body of an unidentified man from a cropland owned by Sekandar in the Pahartali area of Chattogram.



Following a thorough investigation, the victim was identified as Md Sajib, a 27-year-old covered van driver from Chatkhil upazila in Noakhali district. Sajib’s body exhibited multiple injury marks, indicating a violent death. He had gone missing on October 17, 2021, after leaving his home.



Subsequently, police arrested two individuals connected to the case, who later provided confessional statements before the court, shedding light on the circumstances surrounding Sajib’s death.
