Dhaka: Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized a huge quantity of Indian smuggled goods and drugs worth over Tk 1.77 crore in five separate drives in different border areas of the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, BGB press releases issued today detailed the operations carried out by various battalions. The Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) conducted operations from August 16 to 17 and seized Indian cosmetics, blankets, chocolates, tea leaves, snacks, wood, biscuits, and three wooden boats. The estimated value of these seized goods was Tk 17.28 lakh.
The Sarail Battalion (25 BGB) intercepted a truck in Brahmanbaria's Bijoynagar carrying 9,000 kilograms of illegally imported Indian cumin. The combined estimated value of the cumin and the truck was Tk 1.20 crore.
In separate operations, the Kushtia Battalion (47 BGB) detained one person and seized Indian tapentadol tablets, cannabis, cyproheptadine and dexamethasone tablets, liquor, and cigarettes. These items were valued at Tk 20.69 lakh.
The Sultanpur Battalion (60 BGB) seized a variety of Indian goods including mehendi, energy drinks, fuchka, basmati rice, fireworks, wood, cattle, a motorcycle, an easy-bike, yaba tablets, and beer. The estimated worth of these items was around Tk 20.02 lakh.
Additionally, the Khulna Battalion (21 BGB) seized 223 bottles of Indian Eskuf syrup from the Putkhali border area.
The paramilitary force has stated that its intelligence surveillance and anti-smuggling operations will continue to ensure border security and prevent the smuggling of drugs and other goods.
