Dhaka: The first meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Commerce of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad convened at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, chaired by committee chairman Md Khaled Hossain Mahbub. Committee members, including Commerce Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir, and several other parliamentarians, participated in the meeting.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting featured an introductory session where participants exchanged views with officials leading the Ministry of Commerce and its subsidiary agencies. A press release from the parliament secretariat indicated that the committee was briefed on the ministry's activities and those of its affiliated organizations.
The discussion placed significant emphasis on the activities of the Bangladesh Competition Commission. The committee recommended that comprehensive details concerning the commission's institutional expenditure over the past decade, fines collected, and pending cases be presented at the next meeting.
Further discussions were held on strategies to reduce government subsidies for the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), focusing on the dealer appointment process and associated policies. The meeting was attended by the Commerce Ministry secretary, the chairman of the Bangladesh Competition Commission, and additional secretaries, along with relevant officials and employees from the Bangladesh Parliament Secretariat.
