Rangpur: Rangpur Metropolitan Police (RpMP) Commissioner Mohammad Abdul Mabud has ordered the enhancement of intelligence activities to address and curb crime effectively. The directive includes analyzing crime types and trends, and collecting and verifying information on criminal activities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the RpMP Chief emphasized the need for rapid collection and analysis of information concerning the activities and past crimes of individuals involved in offenses, particularly those related to violence against women and children, such as rape. These instructions were given during the monthly crime review meeting for July 2026, held at the RpMP conference room.
The meeting was attended by RpMP Additional Commissioner of Police Naresh Chakma and Deputy Commissioners of Police Tofail Ahmed, Sanatan Chakraborty, and Maruf Ahmed, along with other officials. They reviewed the overall crime situation within RpMP's jurisdiction for July 2026, covering cases, arrests, drug recoveries, and other actions taken to control crime.
Future action plans were also discussed, with directives provided to enhance law and order management at the field level. In July 2026, RpMP registered 139 cases, resulting in 168 arrests. The police also registered 60 drug-related cases, arresting 80 individuals. Additionally, 169 individuals were processed in 111 non-FIR cases.
The anti-drug operations led to the recovery of 11.525 kg of marijuana, 631 Yaba tablets, 41.9 grams of heroin, 30 Tapentadol tablets, 72 bottles of ESKaf, and two liters of distilled liquor. Authorities also seized one auto-rickshaw, one pickup, one truck, 209 packets of medicines, a 30 kg gas cylinder, and two kg of copper wire.
During the meeting, the Police Commissioner instructed that all information be accurate and not misleading, emphasizing the importance of proper filing of GDs and cases and adherence to legal processes. He urged investigating officers to be well-versed in judicial proceedings and maintain coordination by following institutional rules.
Commissioner Mabud reiterated that the Rangpur Metropolitan Police will maintain professionalism and responsibility to uphold law and order, combat drugs, control crime, and ensure public safety.
