Dhaka: The government today dismissed six officers from the Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) police cadre, citing charges of 'desertion'. The home ministry issued separate notifications, signed by Senior Secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury, ordering the termination of the officers. Among those dismissed are additional deputy inspectors general (DIG) Biplob Kumar and Sudip Kumar Chakrabarty, both of whom previously served as joint commissioners of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the other officers relieved from their duties include police superintendents (SP) Md Iqbal Hossain and Kazi Ashraful Azim, additional SP Rajan Kumar Das, and assistant commissioner of DMP Golam Ruhani. Before their dismissal, these officers were assigned to various units and offices under police headquarters.
The notifications highlighted that the dismissed officers were absent from their respective workplaces for an extended period without securing leave or prior permission. The home ministry mentioned that the officials were issued notices to explain their unauthorized absence, but none responded. Following departmental proceedings, prima facie evidence of misconduct was found, leading to their immediate removal under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018.
