Chapainawabganj: A Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinee tragically ended her life after failing English in the recently announced SSC results in Shibganj upazila of Chapainawabganj district.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the deceased, Halima Khatun Torika, aged 16, was the daughter of Tarikul Islam from Puratan Unishbighi village under Shahbajpur union. She was a student at Chakpara Adarsha School located in the upazila. Family and police sources revealed that Halima was deeply upset upon discovering that she had failed in English, despite passing all her other subjects.
In a devastating turn of events, Halima consumed poison in an attempt to end her life. Her family members, finding her in a critical state, immediately rushed her to the 250-bed Chapainawabganj District Hospital. Sadly, the attending doctors declared her dead upon examination.
Dr. Shahreena Islam, a medical officer in the hospital’s emergency department, confirmed that Halima was already deceased when she was brought in. The examination revealed that she had passed away prior to reaching the hospital.
Officer-in-Charge of Shibganj Police Station, Matiur Rahman, stated that the student succumbed to the effects of poison ingestion following her failure in a single subject in her SSC results. He added that the body would be released to the family after the completion of necessary legal formalities.
