Dhaka: Education Minister Dr. ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced that the opportunity to review SSC and equivalent examination question papers has been ensured for aggrieved students following this year's results publication.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister emphasized that this measure was facilitated through legal amendments. These changes allow for a proper evaluation by a review committee if any student is unfairly marked or if marking errors are identified. The remarks were made during a press conference at the Bangladesh Secretariat, following the official release of this year's SSC and equivalent examination results.
In response to questions about re-verification procedures, Dr. Milon stated, "Previously, re-verification only involved checking the addition and subtraction of marks. Now, due to legal changes, we have ensured a thorough re-verification process for each student's papers." He assured that any discrepancies in marking by teachers or inadvertent errors would be revisited by an experienced review committee, and students would be informed of their correct marks.
Addressing concerns about educational institutions with zero pass rates this year, Milon reflected on past experiences from 2001 to 2006 when strict measures were implemented to prevent cheating, initially increasing the number of zero-pass institutions. He noted that through persistent supervision, the overall pass rate was eventually raised significantly from 28 percent to 77 percent.
The minister expressed that the results were only published today, and his ministry plans to promptly address the issue of institutions with zero pass rates. He also discussed the disparity in GPA-5 achievement between the Dhaka board and other education boards, attributing it to socioeconomic and infrastructural differences, which are common worldwide. The government aims to address these disparities by enhancing local education quality through strengthened supervision.
The results were unveiled earlier in the day by the education minister. The event was attended by Prime Minister's Education Adviser Dr. Mahdi Amin, Secondary and Higher Education Division Secretary Md Abdul Khaleque, Dhaka Education Board Chairman Prof Md Akhtaruzzaman, and other education board chairmen.
