Dhaka: State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque has urged students to plant a tree each at every school and college across the country, saying records of the trees planted by students will be maintained and additional saplings will be supplied to educational institutions as necessary. He made the call while addressing a tree plantation programme at Mirpur Girls Ideal Laboratory School and College here today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Aminul Haque emphasized the importance of student involvement in environmental conservation by encouraging them to plant trees. He addressed the students, suggesting that they plant trees in front of their homes, at their schools or colleges, or by the roadside. The initiative will maintain records of the trees planted, ensuring accountability and continuity, with a list of trees planted by each school and college.
The state minister highlighted the current period as suitable for tree plantation, noting that the monsoon rains and favourable weather conditions would aid the rapid growth of trees. He urged students, teachers, and guardians to immediately engage in tree plantation activities, stressing its significance in maintaining environmental balance and combating climate change impacts.
Aminul Haque underscored that the primary aim of launching tree plantation programmes at educational institutions is to foster environmental awareness among students and contribute to making campuses greener. He also referenced the election pledge to plant 250 million trees over the next five years, emphasizing the collective effort required to achieve this goal and make cities and the country greener.
He concluded by encouraging school authorities to motivate students to plant trees alongside their regular classroom learning. If every student participates by planting a tree, Aminul Haque asserted, large-scale greening can be effectively realized across the nation.
