Dhaka: Special Metropolitan Magistrates of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) disposed of 5,890 criminal cases and 3,417 traffic cases through summary trials in July as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen law enforcement in the capital. DMP Law Officer (District and Sessions Judge) Mohammad Ataul Haque stated the criminal cases were resolved across several divisions, including Motijheel, Tejgaon, Wari, Gulshan, Mirpur, Ramna, Lalbagh, and Uttara.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a total of 10,437 accused individuals were presented before the courts, resulting in 6,861 being sentenced to imprisonment. The courts imposed fines totaling Tk 2.346 million, and confiscated property valued at Tk 258,230 was auctioned.
He said DMP and the Special Metropolitan Magistrates jointly conducted 33 special drives across the capital during the month to maintain law and order. In terms of traffic enforcement, 1,340 cases were filed under the Road Transport Act, 2018, with 3,417 traffic cases disposed of, leading to Tk 802,700 being collected in fines.
The DMP indicated that the swift disposal of cases through summary trials has bolstered public confidence in the justice system and law enforcement. This process has enhanced deterrence against crime and contributed to improved law and order in the capital.
