Khulna: Forest officials seized 70 kilograms of venison, two deer heads, a boat, and hunting equipment during a special drive in the Shakbaria River under the Khulna Range of the Sundarbans West Forest Division.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was launched on the basis of secret information under the leadership of Kashiabad Forest Station Officer Deputy Ranger Md. Nasir Uddin. The drive was conducted at around 8:00 pm on Sunday in the No. 6 Koyra Patrol area adjacent to the Shakbaria River in compartment K/36 under the Kashiabad Forest Station.
Sensing the presence of the forest personnel, the poachers fled the scene, leaving behind the venison and hunting equipment. During a search of the abandoned boat, forest officials recovered 70kg of venison, two deer heads, one boat, a machete, and a 10-foot polythene sheet, all of which were seized.
Confirming the incident, Deputy Ranger Md. Nasir Uddin said the operation was conducted following a tip-off, but the suspects managed to flee after detecting the presence of the forest team. He stated that the seized venison was buried and destroyed following a court order, while a case has been filed under the Forest Act in connection with the incident.
