Dhaka: BNP Senior Joint Secretary General and Political Adviser to Prime Minister Advocate Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has declared that the July Uprising holds significance comparable to the French Revolution. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Rizvi made these comments while addressing a discussion titled 'Bloody July: Remembrance and Conviction' held at the Kazi Nazrul Islam Auditorium of Rajshahi University. He highlighted the parallels between the French Revolution, which fought for human rights and civil liberties, and the July Revolution, where the youth sacrificed to establish democracy, civil liberties, and freedom of speech. Rizvi emphasized that the scale of bloodshed during the one-month July Revolution is unprecedented in the history of global revolutions, illustrating the gravity of the struggle. He recounted how the bodies of young people were seen in villages and cities across the nation, with students from schools, colleges, and universities becoming victims of state repression. Further, Riz vi remarked on the humanity displayed during the movement, where friends helped each other despite the dangers. Even as law enforcement agencies opened indiscriminate fire, the students' resolve remained unshaken, with many continuing to march fearlessly. The event also featured a keynote speech by Rajshahi University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Faridul Islam. Chhatra Dal General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir served as the main discussant, while RU unit Chhatra Dal President Sultan Ahmed Rahi chaired the discussion. Special addresses were made by Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) Prof Dr Abdul Alim and Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr Mamunur Rashid Mamun, with General Secretary Sardar Zahurul Islam conducting the programme.
