Dhaka: Prime Minister’s Adviser and spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, Mahdi Amin, stated today that the July Mass Uprising was not the movement of any particular group or party but flourished through the spontaneous participation of the country’s common people. Addressing the “First Conference on the July Revolution,” organized by the July Revolutionary Alliance (JRA) at the BIAM Foundation Auditorium, Amin emphasized the inclusivity of the movement, which transcended political affiliations, including right-wing, left-wing, centrist, and Islamist groups.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Mahdi Amin reiterated the government’s commitment to implementing the July Charter as it was originally signed, ensuring justice for those killed in July. He highlighted the government’s primary goal of realizing the aspirations of the martyrs, envisioning a Bangladesh founded on equality, human dignity, and social justice. Amin called for collective efforts to build a sovereign Bangladesh, free from all forms of discrimination.
Amin also addressed the plight of those injured during the mass uprising, noting that many have yet to resume normal lives. He mentioned that some have lost their eyesight, while others have become permanently disabled. The government, Amin assured, intends to stand by these individuals and their families, providing necessary long-term support.
Reaffirming the government’s determination to build a discrimination-free Bangladesh, Amin expressed the commitment to honor the sacrifices of the martyrs and establish a justice-based state. He also shed light on the historical context of the struggle, acknowledging the loss of more than 400 leaders and activists of the BNP during the July Mass Uprising and preceding movements. Additionally, he noted the thousands subjected to enforced disappearance, torture, and persecution.
