Dhaka: Prime Minister’s Press Secretary AAM Saleh Shibly today announced the government’s plan to gradually honor and support individuals who were killed or injured during decades of democratic movements. This initiative aims to recognize their sacrifices by providing state recognition and assistance.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Shibly made the announcement at the closing ceremony of a special photo exhibition titled ’15 Years of Fascism and the Mass Uprising of 2024′ held at the Jatiya Press Club. The event was organized by the Bangladesh Photo Journalists Association (BPJA) and Amra BNP Paribar. Shibly emphasized the need for patience, stating, “They (the victims) will be honored by the state and receive government support in phases.”

Reflecting on the nation’s history of democratic struggles, Shibly acknowledged the sacrifices made by countless individuals who lost their lives or were injured, as well as those who were separated from their families during the long fight against fascism. He paid tribute to journalists who were victims of these movements, wishing peace for the deceased and a speedy recovery for the injured.

Shibly highlighted the challenges faced by the current government, including global conflicts, economic pressures, and inherited crises from previous administrations. He explained that these factors have delayed the implementation of various initiatives, but reassured that the government is committed to overcoming past repression and building a secure, democratic Bangladesh.

The press secretary urged cooperation from journalists, photojournalists, and citizens to support the efforts led by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to fulfill the aspirations of the movement’s martyrs. The event saw attendance from notable figures such as BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu, BNP Chairman’s Advisory Council member Advocate Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, BPJA President AKM Mohsin, and other prominent journalists and professionals.
