Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) has announced the formation of a four-member committee aimed at simplifying the application process for correcting National Identity Cards (NID).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, an official letter signed by Habiba Akhter, the assistant director of the EC’s National Identity Registration Wing, revealed that the committee will examine documents submitted with NID correction applications and streamline the correction procedure. This initiative is part of the EC’s efforts to improve efficiency and accuracy in NID management.

The committee is led by the Director (Registration and Expatriates) of the National Identity Registration Wing. It has been tasked with classifying the types of requested changes, preparing a comprehensive list of required documents for the correction process, and making recommendations on applications that have been rejected due to insufficient evidence under Category ‘D’.

In addition, the committee will provide guidance on re-submitted applications that come with adequate supporting documents. It is also set to recommend measures for the speedy disposal of applications, offer opinions on necessary modifications to the CMS portal to address complexities in electronic application processing, and suggest justifications for procedures related to NID lock-unlock and rollback.
