Rangpur: The Detective Branch (DB) of Rangpur District Police has arrested four members of a brokers' gang on charges of attempting to cheat in the 2026 recruitment exam for the post of cadet ASI (unarmed) of Bangladesh Police. The arrests were made following a special operation led by the DB Police, which also resulted in the seizure of fake admit cards, screenshots of money transactions, and mobile phones.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was carried out under the direction of Rangpur District Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mozammel Haque. A special DB Police team conducted surveillance during the recruitment exam, leading to the initial apprehension of Ashraful Islam, 21, at the face detection point of the Rangpur Police Lines School and College examination center. Upon questioning, Ashraful confessed to possessing a fake admit card.
The investigation revealed that Ashraful had made a deal through Badsha Masud Alam, 48, and Nurul Islam, 46, both associated with the Kamal Kachhna office of the Fire Service and Civil Defense, to secure a police job in exchange for Taka 17 lakh. Ashraful had already deposited Taka 2.5 lakh in a Dhaka Bank account from the Dinajpur branch. Following this transaction, a fake admit card was sent to him via WhatsApp, which he attempted to use for the exam.
Based on Ashraful's information, DB Police arrested Badsha Masud Alam in Rangpur city. Various evidences of fraud, financial transactions, and fake admit cards were found on his mobile phone. During interrogation, Alam implicated Nurul Islam and others in the operation. Subsequently, Nurul Islam was arrested in Dhaka with assistance from the Kotwali police station of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police.
The arrested individuals have been handed over to the Kotwali police station for further legal action. Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mozammel Haque emphasized that there is no room for irregularities, fraud, or broker gangs in the recruitment process of the Bangladesh Police.
