Dhaka: BNP-backed candidate Sheikh Wahiduzzaman Dipu and Jamaat-backed candidate Md. Jalal Uddin Mallik have been elected as the president and general secretary of the Bagerhat District Bar Association, respectively. The announcement came last night following a day of voting that commenced at 10 am and concluded at 4 pm on Thursday.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the election results also saw Abdul Oli elected as Senior Vice President and Sheikh Md. Sahibur Rahman Saheb as Vice President. Mahbub Morshed Lalon secured the position of Joint General Secretary, while the roles of Assistant Secretaries were filled by Sheikh Moniruzzaman, Md. Maqbul Hossain, Sarmina Akhter, Md. Sajjad Hossain, and BM Nurul Islam.
The newly elected executive members include Md. Saidul Islam Elin, Isadul Fakir, Jannatul Ferdous, Bijoya Lopa, Md. Kamrul Islam Sumon, Sharmin Akhter, Abdullah Al Mamun Khan, and Ayesha Siddika. The election was marked by a festive atmosphere, with a voter turnout of 450 out of 507 registered voters. A total of 38 candidates vied for 17 available posts in the association.
