Police Aim to Excel in Sports Alongside Law Enforcement: IGP

Dhaka: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir today emphasized Bangladesh Police's commitment to contributing significantly to the country's sports sector while fulfilling its law enforcement responsibilities. He expressed the intent to revive the police force's tradition of excellence in national and international sporting competitions.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, IGP Fakir made these remarks during the prize-giving ceremony of the Bangladesh Police Football Championship (IGP Cup)-2025 at the newly built Bangladesh Police Football Ground in Purbachal. He underscored the police's proud history of achievements in sports and their dedication to restoring this legacy.

Highlighting the crucial role of physical fitness, the IGP noted that regular sports and exercise are vital for police personnel to maintain their physical and mental well-being, which, in turn, enhances their efficiency in performing demanding duties. He congratulated both finalists of the championship and encouraged players to continue training diligently to develop into top-level athletes.

In the final match of the championship, Sylhet Range emerged victorious over Chattogram Range with a 1-0 score, lifting the championship trophy. Jibon of Sylhet Range received the Man of the Match award, while Amirul was named Man of the Tournament.

The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner and Bangladesh Police Football Club President Mosleh Uddin Ahmed. Dhaka District Superintendent of Police and Bangladesh Police Football Club General Secretary Shamima Parvin delivered the welcome address. The event was attended by senior police officials and invited guests.

Earlier in the day, the IGP inaugurated the foundation stone of the POHS Green Mart at the POHS-1 residential area, a project being constructed under the initiative of the Bangladesh Police Welfare Trust.
