Dhaka: The Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) yesterday organized a seminar on the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC), chemical safety, and future career prospects for its students.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the seminar was held under the supervision of the Bangladesh National Authority for the Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC). First-year students from the Department of Chemistry at MIST participated in the event, as stated in an ISPR press release.
The speakers at the seminar emphasized the importance of chemical safety, security, and awareness of dual-use risks. They pointed out that chemical safety is both a legal obligation and an ethical responsibility for the engineers of tomorrow.
In addition to safety discussions, the seminar highlighted the extensive career opportunities available for chemistry graduates, both domestically and internationally, particularly in sectors such as pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and international enterprises.
BNACWC Member Secretary and Armed Forces Division official Commodore Md Monir Uddin Mallik attended the closing session as the chief guest. In his remarks, he stressed the importance of building a safe and prosperous chemical industry and expressed gratitude to the Department of Chemistry and MIST authorities for organizing the seminar.
The seminar concluded with BNACWC's pledge to continue promoting chemical awareness and ensuring safety standards in educational institutions nationwide.
