Dhaka: The Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) today inaugurated the Growth for Climate Resilient and Environmental Entrepreneurship and Nutrition (GREEN) Project, focused on fostering sustainable economic growth through enhanced climate resilience, safe food systems, and eco-friendly entrepreneurship.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the project was launched during a ceremony at PKSF Bhaban-1 in Dhaka, chaired by Md Fazlul Kader, Managing Director of PKSF. Dr. Akond Mohammad Rafiqul Islam, Deputy Managing Director of PKSF, emphasized the strategic importance of the GREEN Project in his welcome address, while Md. Habibur Rahman provided an overview of the initiative.

The project presentation revealed that the GREEN Project will run from 2026 to 2031 with a total investment of US$ 211.7 million. The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will contribute US$ 70 million, with the remaining funds supplied by PKSF and its Partner Organisations.

A press release highlighted that this joint investment aims to significantly advance climate-resilient agriculture, green enterprises, and improved nutrition throughout Bangladesh. Md Fazlul Kader stressed the shift from traditional microfinance to growth-oriented financing during his address at the event.

He stated, "Through the GREEN Project, PKSF will work to transform the microenterprise sector into a driver of inclusive economic growth." The project will focus on digital financing, agroecological farming, agriculture-based microenterprises, local agro-processing, value addition, renewable energy, and a circular economy.

The initiative is expected to directly benefit over 258,000 families in Bangladesh's haor, coastal, Barind, and char regions. The GREEN Project will prioritize climate-vulnerable communities, women, youth, small ethnic communities, marginalized groups, and micro-entrepreneurs by promoting climate-resilient food systems, green technologies, sustainable enterprise development, inclusive financial services, and strengthened capacities of PKSF's Partner Organisations.
