Dhaka: LGRD and Cooperatives Minister and BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has urged people to become more aware of their responsibilities as citizens, saying the government alone cannot do everything in a country of 200 million people.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks while exchanging views with the management committee of the 250-bed Thakurgaon General Hospital on Monday afternoon. He emphasized that every individual should recognize and fulfill their duties as citizens, underlining that it is impossible for the government to manage everything without active participation from its people.
Mirza Fakhrul highlighted the government's dedicated efforts in tackling various issues, such as the protection of women and children and the prevention of drug abuse. He noted that laws have been strengthened, with harsher penalties, including the death penalty, introduced to address serious crimes and drug-related offences.
He also mentioned the modernization of Thakurgaon General Hospital, which has seen its bed capacity expanded from 250 to 670. The minister assured that any remaining shortcomings at the hospital would be identified and addressed appropriately.
Furthermore, Mirza Fakhrul stated that development projects planned with Chinese assistance are set to proceed gradually. A team of students has already been selected to visit Thakurgaon after returning home to support these initiatives.
Thakurgaon Deputy Commissioner Rafiqul Haque, Superintendent of Police Belal Hossain, Hospital Superintendent Dr Firoz Zaman Jewel, District BNP General Secretary Poygam Ali, and others were present at the meeting.
