Dhaka: A court here today set September 23 for submitting the probe report in a graft case against five individuals, including former Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Vice-Chancellor Prof Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Shahjahan Kabir passed the order, as the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) failed to submit the probe report today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the case was filed by ACC Assistant Director Minhaz Bin-Islam on July 18, 2025, accusing Prof Kalimullah and four others of embezzling funds from the BRUR development project. The other accused individuals include former Vice-Chancellor and project director of the university, Prof AKM Nurunnabi, former executive engineer and member of the tender evaluation committee, Jahangir Alam, as well as two contractors, Abdus Salam Bachhu and M M Habibur Rahman.
The case against Prof Kalimullah gained further attention when a team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested him from his Mohammadpur residence on August 7 of the previous year. Subsequently, he was taken into police remand for five days in connection with the case on August 27, 2025. The case continues to unfold as the court awaits the ACC's probe report to proceed with the next steps in the judicial process.
