Dhaka: Professor Dr. Md Sohel Rana of the Pharmacy Department has been appointed as the new Treasurer of Jahangirnagar University (JU). According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Secondary and Higher Education Department under the Ministry of Education issued a gazette notification announcing the appointment today.
The notification stated that the President and Chancellor approved the appointment under Section 14(1) of the Jahangirnagar University Act, 1973. Dr. Sohel Rana is set to hold the office for four years from the date of joining or until his retirement, whichever occurs first.
Dr. Rana will receive an honorarium equivalent to the pay of his substantive post, in accordance with a government notification issued on December 27, 2020. He will also enjoy other benefits as prescribed by the relevant rules and is required to remain stationed on the university campus full-time.
As Treasurer, Dr. Rana will exercise the powers and perform the duties assigned under the university's Act and Statutes, as well as those delegated by the university's Vice-Chancellor. The notification also mentioned that the President and Chancellor retain the authority to cancel the appointment at any time if deemed necessary.
The order, issued in the public interest, takes immediate effect, as stated in the notification.
