Dhaka: Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anne emphasized that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) risks losing public trust if it mirrors the politicisation and abuse of power seen during the Awami League's (AL) 17-year rule. Speaking at a reception for newly enrolled lawyers organized by the District Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum in Lakshmipur, Anne stressed the importance of learning from the mistakes of the previous government to maintain accountability and public confidence.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Anne highlighted the fundamental differences in the political ideologies of the BNP and the Awami League, asserting that the BNP is committed to democratic politics. He warned against adopting practices that led to the erosion of public trust under the former AL government, emphasizing that doing so would hinder the BNP's ability to ensure transparency and accountability.
Anne also criticized Jamaat and the National Citizen Party (NCP) for their lack of patriotism and unclear vision for the country's future. His remarks underscored the need for political parties to articulate a clear and patriotic vision to gain and maintain public trust.
The event was chaired by District Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum President Hafizur Rahman, with General Secretary Ahmed Ferdous Manik conducting the program. Lawmakers Abul Khair Bhuiyan and ABM Ashraf Uddin Nijan, Zila Parishad Administrator Sahab Uddin Sabu, and District BNP Joint Convener Hasibur Rahman were among the attendees.
