Dhaka: Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman today emphasized that the trial of martyred journalist Turab's killing is crucial for establishing justice and ensuring a secure working environment for journalists. During his visit to Turab's grave at Fatehpur Graveyard in Beanibazar, he remarked on the liberation of the country from fascism through the sacrifices of individuals like journalist Turab, and stressed the importance of bringing his killers to trial.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr Shafiqur expressed concern over the lack of progress in the judicial proceedings of the murder case, noting that two years have passed since the incident without any significant developments. He highlighted the potential negative impact on future journalists if Turab's murder remains unpunished, emphasizing the importance of encouraging courageous and truth-seeking journalism.
After offering prayers at Turab's grave, Dr Shafiqur met with the journalist's family, extending his condolences and inquiring about their well-being. Earlier in the day, he also visited the graves of several relatives and Jamaat leaders, where he offered prayers and expressed his sympathy to their families.
