Dhaka: A Magura court has sentenced a man to death for the murder of a teenage girl following her rape in 2022. The judgment was delivered by Magura District and Session Judge Mizanur Rahman.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the convicted individual, identified as Hasan Sheikh, 28, hails from Srikol village in the Sreepur upazila of Magura district. The tragic incident unfolded when Rajia Khatun, a class VI student from a local school in the same village, went missing on March 17, 2022, after leaving her home.
Her lifeless body was discovered later that day near a bamboo grove along the Kumar River. In response to the incident, Rajia's father, Mikij Sheikh, filed a case with the Sreepur Police Station. Subsequently, Hasan Sheikh was apprehended by the police from the village on March 19, 2022.
The court's decision came after a thorough examination of records and testimonies from 11 witnesses, culminating in the death sentence for Hasan Sheikh.
