Dhaka: Police have arrested two suspects in connection with the killing of former Swechchhasebak Dal leader Billal Hossain Talukdar in the Mouchak area of Dhaka. The arrestees are identified as Al Amin, the convener of Ward No. 19 Jubo Dal, and Riaz, an activist from the same ward unit.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ramna Division) Sheikh Zahidul Islam announced on Tuesday that the two suspects were apprehended from Dhaka and Munshiganj. The arrests were made following special drives conducted by police on Monday night based on secret information.
The ex-Swechchhasebak Dal leader was killed on Monday at the parking area of Anarkali Super Market, located beside Siddheshwari Boys’ School. Billal, who was a former convener of Ramna Thana Swechchhasebak Dal, was known for his business in the cement and sand trade.
Police have indicated that preliminary investigations suggest the murder was a result of a longstanding rivalry over control of footpaths, extortion, and local influence in the area. Further legal proceedings are currently underway.
