Dhaka: The Jatiyatabadi Bankers' Association, Bangladesh (JBAB) has condemned an alleged assault on Md Omar Faruk, joint convener of the association's central committee, in the capital's Motijheel and called for the immediate arrest of those responsible.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, JBAB convener Md Iqbal Hossain and member secretary Md Mostafizur Rahman Mostak issued a statement alleging that Md Omar Faruk, a Principal Officer at Islami Bank Bangladesh PLC and Joint Convener of the association's central committee, was physically harassed and threatened by a group of individuals in the capital.

The statement detailed that the incident took place around 11:30 am while Omar Faruk was having tea at a roadside stall near the bank's Motijheel office. A group of 20 to 25 people, reportedly led by Shahin Ahmed Khan, former Ameer of the Paltan Thana unit of Jamaat-e-Islami Dhaka Metropolitan and current member of the Dhaka Metropolitan South Working Committee, approached him to verify his identity and bank credentials.

JBAB outlined that Omar Faruk presented his bank ID card and identified himself as a bank employee, questioning the reason for the inquiry. The association alleged that the group then turned aggressive, creating a mob situation, physically harassing him, and threatening him with consequences if he disclosed the incident.

The organization has strongly condemned the alleged assault and demanded that law enforcement authorities investigate the matter and ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
