Sylhet: A 16-year-old tourist drowned in the Piyain River in the Jaflong area of Sylhet on Monday. The deceased was identified as Imtiaz Hossain Rahi, son of Jashim Uddin from Hathazari upazila in Chattogram. Md Moniruzzaman, Officer-in-Charge of Gowainghat Police Station, reported that Rahi had come to Jaflong with his friends during the Eid vacation.
According to United News of Bangladesh, after arriving in Jaflong, Rahi and his friends went to the Piyain River to swim. While swimming in the Nazimnagar ghat area, Rahi was washed away and sank in the river. Upon receiving information about the incident, divers from the local Fire Service and Civil Defence rushed to the spot. They recovered Rahi's body after one and a half hours of intensive search efforts.
