Dhaka: State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salauddin Tuku announced government plans to enhance milk production in Bangladesh, aiming to decrease reliance on imports and eventually develop the capacity for dairy product exports. Speaking at a discussion held at the Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) to mark World Milk Day 2026, Tuku highlighted the government's commitment to creating employment opportunities for women in dairy farms to support this goal.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the theme for this year's World Milk Day is "Women Dairy Farmers: Driving Development Forward." The state minister emphasized the significant role of women entrepreneurs in accelerating the country's economic development. He stated that empowering women leads to a stronger national economy and praised their active involvement in the dairy sector and other areas of society.
The state minister acknowledged the commendable contributions of women in the dairy industry and stressed the need for additional training and support. He assured that government assistance to farmers would be increased as required, noting that successful entrepreneurship benefits the national economy.
Salauddin expressed optimism that with everyone fulfilling their responsibilities, Bangladesh could advance further towards prosperity. During the event, the state minister also distributed milk to orphan students from a madrasah at the Department of Livestock Services (DLS) premises. A vibrant rally was organized, starting from the DLS and concluding at the KIB grounds via the Khamarbari intersection.
The Veterinary Doctors' Association of Bangladesh (VAB) also hosted a milk distribution program for the poor and underprivileged outside the Livestock Building. VAB acting President Dr. Abdur Rahim and Secretary General Dr. Kabir Uddin Ahmed were present at the event.
