Sunamganj: Police have arrested three women, including the suspected leader of the notorious criminal gang 'Lady Kanta,' during a special overnight operation in Sunamganj district town. The detainees include Kanta Begum, widely known as 'Lady Kanta,' Subarna Akter Akhi, wife of Abdul Aziz of Hasannagar, and Jannat Akter, daughter of Alhad Mia of Laxmipur village in Jamalganj upazila.
According to United News of Bangladesh, law enforcement officials recovered a locally made sharp weapon resembling a sword from the women's possessions during the operation, which was conducted in different parts of the town late Sunday night. The police have stated that the gang had been involved in organized criminal activities in the district town and its surrounding areas for an extended period.
Investigators revealed that the group employed a unique strategy to execute their crimes. Members of the gang would disguise themselves and gain entry into homes by pretending to seek assistance or posing as domestic workers. Once inside, they would seize opportunities to steal cash, gold ornaments, and valuable mobile phones before fleeing the scene.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sunamganj Sadar Model Police Station, Ratan Sheikh, noted that Kanta, also known as Lady Kanta, and her associates had allegedly been conducting thefts and robberies for years by entering homes in disguise. He mentioned that the arrests were made based on intelligence information and that legal action against the suspects is currently underway.
