Dhaka: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain today announced that the government has taken all necessary measures to combat the spread of Dengue. "As one or two dengue patients are being found every day and Dengue usually occurs during this period, we do not want to waste any time. We are taking all-out preparations to tackle it," he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister made these remarks during a meeting at the ministry's conference room at the Secretariat, where possible measures to combat Dengue were discussed. He mentioned that dengue corners are being established at upazila health centers, and a field hospital is ready on the Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) campus to provide treatment to infected patients. More field hospitals will be set up in different parts of the country if required.
The meeting was chaired by Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain and attended by State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. M A Muhith, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Professor Dr. Prabhat Chandra Biswas, Additional Director General Prof. Dr. Zahid Raihan, and Director (Hospital) Dr. AHM Moinul Ahsan, among others.
The health minister revealed that the Society of Medicine would provide detailed training, including treatment planning, with support from various organizations such as UNICEF. Training for doctors and nurses will commence in seven divisions outside Dhaka and in districts nationwide. Essential supplies, including reagents, testing kits, and fluid saline, are already in stock, with plans to procure additional quantities as needed.
Regarding measures to address the source of Dengue, the minister noted, "We started working on this with the city corporations two months ago." The meeting also considered the launch of a dengue-related app and the expansion of research on Dengue.
