Dhaka: A discussion meeting, prayer meeting, and food distribution program were organized by the Kachua Upazila BNP to commemorate the 45th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman. Ziaur Rahman, recognized as the proclaimer of independence, promoter of multi-party democracy, and architect of modern Bangladesh, was honored at the Upazila Parishad auditorium. The event was chaired by Upazila BNP President Sardar Zahid, with Dhaka University Vice Chancellor and BNP Central Executive Committee Education Affairs Secretary Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam attending as the chief guest.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam paid tribute to Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman, acknowledging him as a visionary statesman during a national crisis. He highlighted Rahman's pivotal role in declaring independence, rebuilding a war-torn nation, re-establishing multi-party democracy, and laying the foundation of a nationalist political philosophy. Dr. Islam emphasized that these contributions would be remembered in golden letters in Bangladesh's history.
Dr. Islam elaborated on Ziaur Rahman's groundbreaking initiatives in agriculture, industry, education, and infrastructure development. He pointed out Rahman's efforts to boost food production, strengthen the rural economy, conduct canal digging programs, export manpower, develop the private sector, and create a self-reliant economy, which solidified the country's developmental foundation.
The Vice Chancellor underscored that Shaheed Ziaur Rahman's nationalism, patriotism, honesty, dedication, and leadership qualities continue to inspire young people. He affirmed that Rahman's ideals and philosophy would guide the new generation in building a prosperous, democratic, and self-respecting Bangladesh.
The event also featured speeches from other notable speakers, including District BNP leader Khan Monirul Islam, Upazila BNP General Secretary SM Touhidul Islam, and leaders from various BNP affiliates and associate organizations. Special prayers were offered for the forgiveness of Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman's soul and for the nation's peace, prosperity, and welfare. Following the meeting, food items were distributed to the poor, helpless, and distressed individuals to mark the martyrdom anniversary.
Earlier in the day, Vice Chancellor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam also participated as the chief guest at a similar event organized by Morelganj Upazila BNP, where he planted a sapling to honor Shaheed President Ziaur Rahman.
