Bogura: A bicyclist was killed after being struck by a bus on the western side of the Mirzapur Flyover on the Dhaka-Bogura highway in the Sherpur upazila. The accident occurred at around 2:00 pm today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the deceased, Alhaj Ali, 23, was the son of Alauddin from Lauta village in the Tarash upazila of Sirajganj district. Ali was employed at a shop in Mirzapur Bazar, Sherpur, and was on his way home for lunch when the incident occurred.
Police sources reported that Ali was riding his bicycle when he reached the highway near the Mirzapur Flyover. At that moment, a speeding Dhaka-bound bus named Upama Paribahan struck his bicycle from behind, resulting in his death on the spot.
Upon receiving information about the accident, members of the Sherpur Highway Police Outpost arrived at the scene and recovered the body. Legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently underway, authorities added.
