Dhaka: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain today announced that a bakery was discovered operating within Ad-din Medical College Hospital, located in the capital’s Moghbazar area. The revelation came during a visit to the hospital, where the minister addressed reporters about the unexpected finding.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the bakery was situated on the hospital’s ground floor and was equipped with two electric ovens, yet lacked a designated engineer to oversee its operations. Minister Husain emphasized that the situation was unacceptable and assured that authorities are currently investigating potential gas emissions from the facility. The bakery was responsible for preparing food for thousands of medical students, but was found in a state of significant dirt and unhygienic conditions.
The minister further stated that the incident would be thoroughly investigated and addressed with strict measures. This discovery follows a tragic event in the early hours of May 27, where six newborn babies died at the hospital. In response to that incident, the Health and Family Welfare Ministry initiated a three-member investigation committee to probe the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
