Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has asked the officials concerned to take punitive measures against those who failed to implement instructions in removing waste, maintaining the drainage system, and taking measures to prevent dengue in the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, State Minister for LGRD and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam stated that the premier gave the order to Chief Executive Officers, Chief Waste Management Officers, and Chief Health Officers of both Dhaka North and South City Corporations. They have been instructed to take actions within the next 48 hours for their failures.
“We are quickly beginning the process to implement the Prime Minister’s directive,” Alam confirmed.
Earlier, the prime minister conducted inspections of various development projects and waste management activities across Dhaka from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm today without official protocol. During this inspection, Tarique Rahman expressed dissatisfaction with the poor state of waste removal in areas including Hatirpool, Elephant Road, Green Road, Farmgate, and Karwan Bazar. These locations were found with sacrificial animal waste and previously accumulated garbage scattered on roads and streets, as reported by Alam.
Following the premier’s directive, two zonal executive officers of the Dhaka North and South City Corporations were immediately attached to the Ministry of Public Administration. Additionally, departmental proceedings were initiated against them for negligence in duty. The suspended officials are Md Sadekur Rahman, ZEO of Zone-5 of Dhaka North City Corporation, and Kazi Saleh Mustanzir, ZEO of Zone-1 of Dhaka South City Corporation. Both officials hold the rank of deputy secretary.
