Madhupur: Minister for Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology and Science and Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam has announced that the electricity crisis at Madhupur Upazila Health Complex will be addressed through the installation of solar panels. During a visit to the health complex on Friday afternoon, the minister stated that until the solar panels are installed, he would personally cover the generator expenses to ensure continuous healthcare services for patients.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister stressed that any irregularities in hospital operations would not be tolerated and committed to enhancing healthcare services for the public. He also mentioned that the Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex would be developed into a model hospital in the country. Fakir Mahbub emphasized the government’s efforts to provide quality healthcare services to citizens and assured that all necessary support would be given to transform the Dhanbari Upazila Health Complex into a modern healthcare institution.
During his visit, the minister engaged with admitted patients, inquired about their treatments, and spent time with pediatric patients. He later participated in a view exchange meeting at the hospital’s new building seminar room. Hospital authorities informed the minister that the facility serves not only residents of Madhupur but also patients from nearby areas like Dhanbari, Gopalpur, Muktagacha, Sarishabari, and Ghatail, resulting in a high daily patient load.
Officials noted that despite upgrading the hospital from 50 to 100 beds in 2020, the necessary revenue-funded staffing positions have not been established. Limited budget allocations for medical supplies and operational expenses have forced the institution to operate a 100-bed facility with insufficient manpower, placing doctors, nurses, and staff under significant pressure.
The hospital authorities submitted several demands to ensure the full operation of the 100-bed facility, including the construction of a new storage building, boundary wall, solar power system, water supply line, sewage and waste management facilities, dormitories for physicians, and residential quarters for employees. Additional medical equipment and furniture were also highlighted as needs.
The minister listened to the concerns of hospital officials and assured them that measures would be taken to address these issues. It was noted that the Madhupur Upazila Health Complex, despite being officially upgraded to a 100-bed hospital, struggles to provide full-scale services due to a lack of manpower and budget allocations.
