Dhaka: Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain announced today that a complete investigation report regarding the deaths of six newborns at Ad-din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar will be submitted on June 3. Speaking at the Directorate General of Health Services in Mahakhali, the minister explained that the report’s submission was delayed by three days to ensure thorough data collection.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the minister emphasized the need to record statements from the bereaved mothers, which has not yet been done. He stated that a comprehensive report would be prepared after these statements are collected. Initial findings indicate that the air-conditioning system was non-functional for two hours during the incident, from 2 am to 4 am, with no alternative ventilation in place.
Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Husain assured that strict actions would be taken against those found responsible once the investigation concludes. The event was also attended by DGHS director general Pravath Chandra Biswas.
On May 27, the families of the deceased newborns received the bodies under the condition that no autopsies would be conducted, following a request made by the relatives. A family member of one of the newborns has filed an unnatural death (UD) case with the Ramna Police Station in relation to the incident.
