Sylhet: Labour and Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury today announced plans to establish a tourism support center aimed at enhancing Sylhet’s tourism sector. ‘Jaintiapur, Gowainghat, and Companiganj areas of Sylhet have immense tourism potential. We want to introduce a tourism support center to boost tourism,’ he stated during an Eid reunion at Jaintiapur Upazila Parishad.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Ariful, who also serves as the minister for expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment and as the Sylhet-4 MP, revealed plans to transform the historic Rajbari of Jaintiapur into a museum. He highlighted the need to expand opportunities for technical and vocational training to make students of local Qawmi madrasas more employment-oriented.
The minister underscored the importance of enhancing sports and recreational facilities in schools, colleges, and madrasas to benefit students. In a bid to support overseas job seekers, he announced the establishment of a dedicated technical training center for aspiring migrant workers.
He urged the upazila administration and law enforcement agencies to intensify efforts to dismantle illegal structures and strengthen anti-drug operations to maintain discipline and order in the area. The program was chaired by UNO Sunanda Roy, with Assistant Commissioner (Land) Poly Rani Deb, General Secretary of Jaintiapur Upazila BNP Abdul Hafiz, and other political and social leaders in attendance.
Following the event, the minister toured several tourist attractions in Jaintiapur.
