Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Friday directed the authorities concerned to take action within 48 hours against six more officials of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) and Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) over failures in waste management, drainage cleaning, and dengue prevention measures.
According to United News of Bangladesh, State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Mir Shahe Alam confirmed on Friday night that he received the directive from the Prime Minister. The directive mandates immediate action against the chief executive officers, chief waste management officers, and chief health officers of both DNCC and DSCC if they fail to ensure effective garbage clearance, drainage cleaning, and necessary measures for dengue prevention.
Mir Shahe Alam emphasized that the Prime Minister also ordered the withdrawal and punitive action against the officials concerned in case of non-compliance with these directives. “We are already working to quickly begin the process of implementing the Prime Minister’s instructions,” he said.
Previously, two regional executive officers from both city corporations were removed due to negligence in removing sacrificial waste from different parts of the capital following Eid-ul-Azha. The officials, Md Sadequr Rahman of DNCC Zone-5 and Kazi Saleh Mostanzir of DSCC Zone-1, were reassigned to the Ministry of Public Administration.
The Prime Minister personally drove through various areas of the capital to inspect waste removal progress and expressed dissatisfaction upon discovering piles of sacrificial waste and old garbage still present in several locations. Subsequently, Tarique Rahman instructed State Minister Shahe Alam, who was present during the inspection, to take immediate action against the two regional executive officers.
