Dhaka: Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has mandated disciplinary action and temporary suspension of two zonal executive officers (ZEOs) from the Dhaka North and South City Corporations due to their failure to effectively manage the removal of sacrificial animal waste in several areas of the capital.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Prime Minister, accompanied by State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam, conducted an unscheduled inspection of various development projects and waste management activities across Dhaka from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. The inspection revealed a disappointing state of waste removal, with sacrificial animal waste and previously accumulated garbage scattered across roads in areas such as Hatirpool, Elephant Road, Green Road, Farmgate, and Karwan Bazar.
In response to the findings, Tarique Rahman ordered the immediate attachment of the two zonal executive officers from Dhaka North and South City Corporations to the Ministry of Public Administration. Departmental proceedings have been initiated against them for their negligence. The officials in question are Md Sadekur Rahman, ZEO of Zone-5 of Dhaka North City Corporation, and Kazi Saleh Mustanzir, ZEO of Zone-1 of Dhaka South City Corporation, both of whom hold the rank of deputy secretary.
Prime Minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam Rony confirmed that the Prime Minister personally drove through different roads in the capital to assess the ongoing waste removal efforts. State Minister Mir Shahe Alam, along with Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md Abdus Salam, BNP National Executive Committee Special Secretary Muhammad Belayet Hossain Mirda, and the Prime Minister’s Private Secretary-2 Md Mehedul Islam, accompanied the Prime Minister during the inspection.
