Dhaka: Another 17 children have succumbed to measles and measles-like symptoms across the country in the last 24 hours. During the same period, 1,224 patients with these symptoms have been admitted to hospitals nationwide.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a press release from the control room of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed that the number of suspected measles cases in the last 24 hours stands at 1,127, bringing the total number of suspected cases from March 15 to May 25 to 64,940. In the last 24 hours alone, 97 confirmed measles cases were recorded, with a cumulative total of 8,719 confirmed cases from March 15 to May 25.
From March 15 to the present, 51,585 patients have been hospitalized with suspected measles, while 47,619 have recovered and been discharged. Over the past 24 hours, there have been 16 reported deaths from suspected measles. From March 15 to May 25, the total number of deaths from suspected measles is 458, while 87 fatalities have been confirmed as measles-related.
The Dhaka division has reported the highest number of suspected measles cases, with 30,688 incidents recorded. Of these, 6,018 have been confirmed as measles cases. The situation underscores the urgent need for increased public health measures and vaccination efforts to curb the spread of the disease.
