Pabna: A man was beaten to death following a dispute allegedly over a goat eating tree leaves in Ishwardi upazila of Pabna on Sunday. The deceased was identified as Mahabul Hossain, 60, son of late Azizul Pramanik of Sahapur Purbapara area under Sahapur Union.
According to United News of Bangladesh, police detained Abul Bashar Munshi, son of Abul Kashem Munshi of the same area, in connection with the murder. This information was confirmed by Md Asadur Rahman, officer-in-charge (OC) of Ishwardi Police Station.
Witnesses reported that an argument broke out between Mahabul and his neighbours, Bashar Munshi and his elder brother Taslim Munshi, after one of Mahabul's goats ate leaves from a tree around 11:30 am. The altercation escalated, and Bashar and Taslim allegedly beat Mahabul with sticks, leaving him injured.
Locals and relatives quickly intervened, rescuing Mahabul and taking him to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead. OC Asadur Rahman stated that additional police have been deployed in the area as tensions escalated following Mahabul's death. Efforts are underway to arrest the other accused.
