Dhaka: The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has intensified its oversight of vehicles transporting sacrificial animals to ensure that they are not forcibly diverted to specific markets in the lead-up to Eid-ul-Azha, as announced by the agency's chief.
According to United News of Bangladesh, RAB Director General Md Ahsan Habib Palash addressed reporters after visiting the Gabtoli Cattle Market in the capital. He emphasized that security measures have been strengthened nationwide, particularly in the capital, to maintain law and order during the Eid-ul-Azha period.
The RAB has established checkpoints throughout Dhaka city and other regions to bolster security efforts, as stated by the RAB chief. Control rooms have been set up at cattle markets, and RAB battalions are actively patrolling their designated areas to ensure the secure transportation of sacrificial animals to markets.
Checkpoints are being operated at vulnerable and strategic locations in collaboration with other law enforcement agencies to enhance security measures, noted Habib Palash. The risk of robbery and theft of cattle traders' funds tends to rise during Eid due to reduced public gatherings in Dhaka and other cities. To mitigate this risk, RAB has increased security posts and patrols.
The RAB director general highlighted that special monitoring is underway through control rooms and watchtowers at cattle markets to minimize inconvenience for buyers. Traders and buyers are being encouraged to use cashless payment methods or cards instead of cash transactions.
Necessary equipment is ready to detect counterfeit currency, and operations against counterfeit money producers continue. The RAB has issued a stern warning of immediate action against individuals spreading rumors or misleading posts on social media regarding Eid and animal sacrifice.
RAB's regular patrols, intelligence surveillance, and operational activities will persist to prevent terrorist activities and other crimes, ensuring law and order are maintained across the country during the Eid period.
